Making My Way

Artist's Studio

Making My Way is about survival, boundaries, and what I need to do and be in order to move forward and be contained. It is about the process of translating raw life.

The process of creating the materials for the installation is an important part of the final product. I cut the strips from my own watercolor drawings, dating back to 1977. To shape them, I wrapped them around pipes, doorknobs, vases, ladder rungs…to see what shape would be formed. It took several years to produce enough of these shapes that I could begin to see them as building blocks.

Each element is independent…but placed next to each other, they support each other, to make a final form without staples, glue, or nails.
